Virtual Therapist for Mental Health Support

In recent years, therapies have gotten attention as an intervention for mental health problems. However, it’s hard to find enough time and resources for undergoing proper therapy sessions. Therefore, the aim of this project is to develop an AI supported therapy agent, i.e., which will offer real-time emotion regulation techniques and counseling, promoting positive mental health behavior change. The agent will receive information about the emotional state of the user from their smart devices, i.e., smart watch, smartphone etc.

Chatbot Based Intervention System for Emotion RegulationsUsing Wearable devices for Detecting Emotions

In this project we aim to use wearable devices like smart watches for detecting emotions (positive will also be interesting but negative for now). Responsibility of this student will be to find a way to detect the intensity (and type if possible) of negative emotions through these devices and communicate that to the chatbot installed on the paired cell phone.

Moreover, the candidate will design and conduct an experiment in a real-life setup. The results of the controlled and experimental groups will be compared to see how accurate the wearable devices are in detecting emotions.

Chatbot Based Intervention System for Emotion RegulationsAnalysis of the Role of Chatbot in Emotion Regulation

This project is focused on developing a chatbot for regulating emotions. The chatbot will get input of the intensity (and maybe type) of emotions from wearable devices like smart watches and initiate conversation accordingly. The interaction of chatbot with the human will be based on the interventions designed by the student of the 3rd project.

As a result of the experiment of this project, we expect to get insight into the role that a chatbot can potentially play in the personalized regulation of emotions.

Chatbot Based Intervention System for Emotion RegulationsAnalysis of the Role of Chatbot in Emotion RegulationDesigning effective interventions for Emotion Regulation

In this project we aim to design effective interventions/conversations that the chatbot will practice with the subject. The conversation based on the type of intervention advised on the basis of the intensity/type of emotions will be developed/decided by this candidate.

The experiment of this project will probe the efficacy of the various interventions used in the project.

The Impact of Emotional Rhetoric on Voter Behavior

A lot is happening in the political arena of the world in terms of internal and external politics & conflicts, and issues like climate change. New leaders are emerging and the society is getting polarized with each passing day. Therefore, this project focuses on the role of emotions in politics.

In this project, we are going to examine how politicians use emotional rhetoric to influence voter behavior. For this we’ll analyze speeches, social media posts, and campaign advertisements to identify emotional triggers and their effects on voting patterns.

Emotions and Political Polarization

In this project we will investigate the role of emotions in driving political polarization. We’ll focus on how fear, anger, and disgust contribute to the growing divide between political groups. Surveys and media analysis will be carried out to measure emotional responses and their impact on political opinions.

A chatbot to support women’s health

This project aims to understand the (technical) feasibility using an LLM to support women seeking health related information, specifically on menopause. A key result is an LLM-based chatbot backed by a vectorized database of menopause related health information. A streamlined process for populating the database with scientifically grounded women’s health data and an evaluation of prompt variants (through prompt engineering) are part of the expected activities.

This assignment can be conducted as an internship at the Bettr Health group.
