On January 30, 2026, the AI & Society course, taught by researchers of the AI&Behaviour group, concluded with a lively symposium, where around 180 students presented their essays and posters on the impact of AI on society. Throughout the course, students explored the societal implications of AI, including its effects on academia, creativity, inequality, the labor market, and dependence on Big Tech. They also examined potential solutions from both technological and regulatory perspectives, while reflecting on their roles as future AI experts.
The symposium provided a platform for students to showcase their informed opinions, developed through weekly reflections, group discussions, and peer reviews. Their final essays, written as op-eds, addressed pressing AI-related issues, demonstrating critical thinking and the ability to articulate well-reasoned arguments. The event highlighted the importance of engaging AI professionals in societal discussions, ensuring that technological advancements align with ethical and equitable values.
